Goodreads Summary: Shunned by the Amish community, shepherd Carl King has given up on his dream for a family. Yet when captivating Lizzie Barkman shows up at the sheep farm where he works, Carl sees the wife he once dreamed of. Lizzie is looking for a new start, for herself and her sisters, and discovers Carl to be a kind and gentle man who cares deeply about the Amish way of life. But he is under the Bann. Is it possible that this forbidden man holds the key to her family’s safety—and the one to her heart.
Lizzie is desperate to keep her sister from marrying a mean old man. In order to do this she sets out for her grandfather’s house. The Grandfather she has had no contact with since she was a kid. At first he does not want her there and tells her to go back home. But the love for her sisters gives her the courage to stay and find a way to help them. She befriends a man who is working for her grandfather. He seems English at first but Lizzie soon realized Carl has an Amish background and worse yet he is under the Bann. Can she look past the rules and get to know him and maybe find a way to save her sisters as well?
I really enjoyed this book. This is the third book in this series that I have read and I’m hoping there will be more to come.
What I liked: Lizzie loved her sisters and wanted to get them out of the bad situation they were in. She risked everything to got to her Grandfather for help. I really liked her and the courage she showed and her resilience in dealing with her grandfather. I also liked Carl. He had a bad situation that left him broken and he had to learn to rely on God and trust him again. I thought it was a great story. One anyone can relate to one way or another.
What I did not like: The only thing I did not like was how mean Lizzie’s Uncle was and how her Grandfather did not want to help at first. The story worked itself out but her uncle really rubbed me the wrong way.
This was a great book. I really enjoy this author and think she does a great job writing a well-rounded and enjoyable plot. The characters were very likable for the most part. If you enjoy Amish Fiction you will love this book. I recommend going back and reading all her books in this series. I have only read three but hope to read the rest at some point. The books are easily stand alone but there are mentions of some of the past characters.
